A moment to remember

May 9th, 2008

“Good night, Sweet Bubbers,” I said softly as I squeezed my son tight and breathed in the scent of his fresh baby lotion.

He laid his head on my shoulder and relaxed in my arms. I smiled and patted his back softly, cherishing these times of cuddling.

Suddenly, Bubbers pulled his head up, turned toward me and looked right into my eyes.

“Hi there,” I smiled quietly and he smiled back.

Then out of nowhere, and with his eyes still locked on mine, he leaned forward in slow motion with his mouth gaping wide open. Having no idea what on earth he was doing, I froze and waited.

Please don’t bite me, I thought as I mentally prepared to pull back if his seven pearly whites started to sink into my tender skin.

But he didn’t bite me.

He soundly planted his gaping mouth onto my jaw line. And stayed there.

What the?…

Suddenly I felt his soggy breath suck in and blow out against my jaw line.

After that, Bubbers pulled back and smiled at me with twinkling eyes.

“Thank you!” I told him, not sure what I was thanking him for, but knowing it was something special.

Then he leaned forward and did the whole thing over again.

I laughed with delight and Charming suddenly realized, “He’s giving you a kiss!”

I looked at my husband and then back at Bubbers, who was smiling at me and moving in to give me another one.

“Holy smokes, you’re right!” I cried as Bubbers gave my jaw line another soggy Wooga kiss.

When he pulled back, I smiled excitedly, “Can I have another kiss?? Give me another kiss!” and I held out my jawline for another precious kiss from those sweet Wooga lips.

This time he planted one on my neck and his warm soggy breath tickled my skin. I laughed, but didn’t pull back for fear of scaring him off.

“I want some! I want some!” Charming cried out as he excitedly reached out for a turn with the Wooga man.

I laughed with delight and handed my bundle of unexpected affection over and began cheering him on to kiss his father, too.

Bubbers looked at his Dad’s 5 o’clock shadow and hesitated.

Then he looked at me and I smiled and nodded encouragement, “Give him a kiss! Give him a kiss!”

Bubbers turned back to his Dad, slowly leaned forward and planted his gaping mouth on his Daddy’s neck.

We cheered him on with oohs and aahs and he smiled and gave kiss after kiss to his father’s delight.

“Yeah!” we cried, “Thank you, Bubbers!”

He couldn’t have been happier with himself and we couldn’t have been happier with him!

Thank heaven for Bubbers and thank heaven for these precious moments to remember.

I agree – there’s nothing like baby kisses – especially their first ones! What a fun milestone – and told so beautifully. :)

Thats great that you have that moment recorded now! Joshua will “attack” us with an open mouth, but I’m not sure he’s trying to give a kiss because he growls and screams. He does, however, make kissing noises and faces from a distance if you do it to him.
